How to Spot a Genuine Pair of Asics Trainers: A Buyer's Guide

With Asics' retro running shoes more popular than ever, it's worth knowing what to check when you're buying a pair — especially anywhere other than a brand's own store. None of this is about scaring you off buying online, just practical things worth knowing.

Check the box label

Genuine Asics boxes carry a label with the style code, size, and colour that should match what's printed inside the shoe's tongue or insole. If the codes don't match across the box and the shoe, ask questions.

Look at the stitching and GEL unit

Asics' GEL cushioning units are precisely moulded and sit flush within the midsole — genuine pairs won't have uneven glue lines, crooked stitching, or a GEL window that looks slightly the wrong shape or shade.

Weight and smell

Genuine EVA and GEL midsoles have a fairly neutral smell and consistent weight between the left and right shoe. A strong chemical smell or a noticeable weight difference between the pair is a red flag.

Buy from sellers who show real stock photos

Wherever you buy from, sellers using real photos of the actual pair (rather than stock catalogue images) are generally easier to trust — you can check stitching, box condition, and colour accuracy before it arrives.
